2011 Grammys

Ok, so I’ve already screwed up on my New Year’s resolution of blogging every week. So sue me.

Been tweeting a lot lately. And with the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards on tonight, I figured that I’d tweet various comments through the night as events unfold. This blog will be a collection of all of the tweets in one tidy package.

So as the Joker said, “and here…we…go…”

the only reason why arcade fire was scheduled to perform was because they were going to win album of the year. bizarre ending.

Nelly’s in a new Ford commercial. Glad to see he had that blemish on his face taken care of. No BandAid required!

no matter the song, Eminem is always angry. the performance is good, but it just comes across as a one-trick pony & gets old.

I hate the fact that I actually like some of Katy Perry’s music. Or maybe it’s that the songs just get stuck in my head. Ugh…

101 minutes in and only 3 awards.the RIAA should just come out and admit that this is one big ad to get record sales & not about awards.

Harvey Mandel playing his Parker Fly w/ Dylan & friends just looks a bit out of place. Then again, I’m probably one of the few to notice.

Mumford & Sons are rockin’ it! Good for them!

What’s up with Walberg’s Bieber comment? He has no room to talk. This category is terrible, by the way. And Gaga won a Grammy. A GRAMMY!?!?

Again, Muse saves us from the idiocy that preceded it. Glad they won. Love Jeff and Neil but neither album was “rock”.

so i know if you get to be in the “pit” that the producers want you to be into the music, but the guy swingin’ his head to Bieber is unreal!

Wow, Bruno. Perhaps you should lay off the powder. Then you might sing better over the voice break.

Yea. Cocaine Mars is singing. I love how we reward this behavior.

Ellen K said “Music really ROCKED!” with such passion. Is that really the best they could get to MC the breaks?

“nice” performance by Miranda Lambert. Nothing special or groundbreaking. & I’m trying to not let the fact that it’s country get in the way.

Well, Gaga’s performance certainly could have been worse. I still see nothing interesting/redeeming in her “music”. Just a Madonna wannabe.

Geez, Gaga sounds way to close to Madonna. This song is melodically a rip of “Express Yourself”.

really expected Glee to win Pop Duo/Group. At least a real band won. Congrats Train, and nice Stern shout-out.

I think Christina just redeemed herself after her Superbowl faux pas. Not that I held anything against her about the flub to begin with…

So there you go. Odd show. Strange group of performers and a lot of awards given to artists that I wouldn’t have thought had a chance in winning. Arcade Fire performing last, winning Album Of The Year, and then being scheduled to perform after they are given the award is a bit suspect. What if Eminem or Katy Perry won? Would Arcade Fire performed a 2nd time?

It’s unfortunate that the show has really become about advertising artists so that the record industry may see a spike in album sales following the awards instead of recognizing artists for their achievements. If it really was, then there would have been more awards given on camera instead of off.

Gotta love the music industry.
